Even the rain couldnt keep the youngsters and seniors from enjoying a day filled with physical activities among the luscious vegetation of Pinecrest Gardens during the fourth annual Step Up, Florida! organized by the Miami-Dade County Health Department and its community-based partners.

Students from Perrine Seventh-Day Adventist School and Sweetwater Head Start and senior citizens from Galata Senior Center joined in the festivities Monday despite the soggy weather. Activities included a walk, dance, tai chi and hip hop aerobics.

“Step Up, Florida! is an excellent way to encourage people of all ages to start making regular physical activity a part of their everyday lives,” said Lillian Rivera, RN, MSN, Administrator of the Miami-Dade County Health Department. “Sixty minutes of physical activity a day is suggested to help manage weight and prevent gradual weight gain. Remaining active also helps to reduce the risk of chronic disease.”
